REVIEW: Olivier Awards 2018

The Olivier Awards 2018, the West End’s main event of the year, took place on 8th April and both myself and Olivia Dowden got to attend the big event that saw Lin Manuel Miranda’s smash-hit American musical, Hamilton, go up against Dan Gillespie Sells’ home-grown hit, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

In my new video we talk about which were our favourite performances, if we agreed with the results and why Olivia was happy that Dick Whittington won an Olivier Award.

The big winners of the evening were Hamilton with seven awards, including Best New Musical, and Jez Butterworth’s play The Ferryman which picked up three awards, including Best New Play.

My personal stand-out performance of the night was Sheila Atim’s performance of Bob Dylan’s ‘Tight Connection To My Heart (Has Anyone Seen My Love)’ from Girl From The North Country and Olivia’s was Tracie Bennett’s performance of ‘I’m Still Here’ from Stephen Sondheim’s Follies, which will return to the National Theatre in 2019.

The ITV broadcast of the ceremony can still be watched on the ITV Hub.
